Brackets 1.1

Brackets is intended to help you write code for CSS, HTML and JavaScript projects. The editor has a simple-to-use interface with an optimum use of screen space. It is evident, though, that this tool is not suitable for any kind of user, as code writing skills are necessary.

The program has some features aimed at facilitating code writing. As most other code editors, it can complete code by suggesting elements that match your input. Likewise, it supports syntax highlighting, which means that it uses different colors according to the category of the terms. It helps reduce typing and coding mistakes. The program also allows searching and replacing specific strings as well indenting, unindenting or duplicating lines. A great advantage of Brackets over other editors is that it can open CSS code associated with the selected element. One limitation of Brackets, however, is that it only supports HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Yet, this can be overcome by installing extensions.

Brackets includes various debugging tools. There is a preview button, for instance, that opens the file being edited in Google Chrome. Not only that, this preview is absolutely live, which means that if you select a given HTML element in the editor, it appears highlighted in the browser as well.

All in all, Brackets is a convenient code editor which can be used by expert and inexperienced programmers. The product is open-source and cross-platform, which is absolutely an advantage in terms of reducing costs and ensuring compatibility between computers. Regrettably, the tool may not be the best choice if you work with server-side languages.
